House rules

To make your visit to us as pleasant as possible, both for yourself and for everyone else, there are some rules that must be followed. We have no weird or strange rules, they should be obvious to most people. They are largely about common sense and respect. Some of the rules are governed by Swedish and European legislation, and by the rules that apply to us as we have permission to serve alcohol.

  • SLM is a members-only association. To ensure that everyone feels comfortable: what happens at SLM, and who attends or is at SLM, must not be shared.
  • We treat each other with respect to create a positive community and a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Our volunteers act on the behalf of the board – their word is final.
  • To maintain the right atmosphere, all guests must follow the current dress code.
  • Photographing and filming are strictly prohibited at SLM. This also includes allowing yourself to be photographed or filmed.
  • Consent always applies at SLM. A no, or a removed hand, is always a no. Make eye contact, approach calmly, and respect the response.
  • SLM has zero tolerance for drugs. Poppers are not drugs.
  • Smoking (including e-cigarettes and vapes) is only permitted in the designated smoking room.
  • Faeces and bodily fluids must only be disposed with in designated areas. If an accident happens, help clean up.
  • Swedish law always applies at SLM

What happens if I violate any of the house rules?

It is always the volunteers managing the club during the evening who decide how violations of the house rules are to be handled. Depending on the severity of the violation, you as a member may be removed from the club for the evening, suspended from the club for a certain period of time, or expelled altogether.

The volunteers act on behalf of the board – their word is final. Therefore, please respect it if you are asked to leave for the evening. If you are suspended, the background to this will be communicated to you by the person responsible for service that evening, and after leaving the club you may contact the board and request a review of the decision. If you become subject to expulsion proceedings, the board will be notified and will review and decide on the expulsion. During a suspension or expulsion, any remaining balance of the membership fee will not be refunded.

Background to our house rules

SLM Stockholm is a non-profit association. We are run entirely by our members for our members and have no employed, or paid, staff. Everything is done on a voluntary basis by members in addition to their regular jobs.

The foundation of our association comes from the 1970s and 1980s when homosexuality was either illegal or generally suppressed. Inspired by the motorcycle clubs, gay clubs were formed in similar fashion, and hence, the connection to leather and motorcycles. This is also clearly seen in the artworks by Tom of Finland.

We are a not an ordinary gay club but a fetish gay club where how you dress is of importance. Our dress code has its roots in leather and motorcycles but is constantly evolving to be current and up to date.
